My research focuses on the evolutionary history of relatively simple animals -- cnidarians, (jellyfishes, anemones, etc.), placozoans (aka Trichoplax), and sponges. I generate and use evolutionary trees, otherwise known as phylogenetic hypotheses to come to a better understanding how the amazing diversity present within these groups (in terms of morphology, life history, and genetics) has come to be. It is called Systematics, and it is good for us.
